The Core is a standard, managed software configuration for desktop, laptop, and tablet computers, providing the software tools, security features, and device management features that are required to enable a reliable, secure, and supportable computing environment. This configuration is incorporated into an "image" that can be quick applied to an existing device as a single installation. The Core primarily consists of the CoreImage and the CoreMac images and Core workstations are assigned a unique eight character terminal ID (TermID).

Notes:

  1. Administrative Rights: user has rights to install software and make other operating system level changes.  This requires a signed user agreement.
  2. GreenIT:  power management configuration applied to HITS CoreImage computers. It allows the computer to be powered on and off at user-defined times. This creates power savings during times when the machine is not normally in use.

  3. Maintenance Runs Daily: Maintenance will automatically run daily at a configurable time or “X” (once every 2 weeks).  “Maint X” requires a signed user agreement. Maintenance synchronizes parameters such as security timers and administrator accounts with the information in HITS’ configuration management database.  It also installs printers and non-enterprise software titles.

  4. Automatic Reboots: Computer will reboot after a patch is installed or after Maintenance is run (if needed) in order to update the system

  5. Microsoft calls this Fast User Switching
